James Gunn‘s Man of Tomorrow is set to begin filming in June 2026. Gunn will write, direct, and produce the film alongside DC Studios’ Peter Safran, who will also serve as co-producer.
Most recently, Gunn announced his next DC Universe project titled Man of Tomorrow, which is a direct follow-up to Superman but not considered a direct sequel. David Corenswet returns as Clark Kent/Superman, and Nicholas Hoult reprises his role as Lex Luthor.

In Man of Tomorrow, Corenswet will return as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl, among others.
Also, Supergirl (Milly Alcock), Lobo (Jason Momoa), and Peacemaker (John Cena) are rumored to appear.
Speaking to Deadline Crew Call, Gunn said the Superman follow-up movie takes place “within the group of characters we’ve already met, and Superman is an important element.”
Superman was released on July 11, 2025, as the first feature film from DC Studios and the debut entry in the newly launched DCU. In addition to Superman and Lex Luthor, the film introduced Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Supergirl, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White, among others.
The film had a $225 million budget and has earned $612 million so far during its global theatrical run. Story elements from Superman will continue in Peacemaker Season 2, which is currently airing on HBO Max.
Future DCU projects include HBO’s Lanterns and Supergirl, both in post-production, as well as Clayface, which is currently filming in Liverpool.
Man of Tomorrow will be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
