James Gunn wrote the Superman movie script in an episodic structure, but the final cut moves away from the day-by-day format.
According to Daniel Richtman’s recent Patreon post, Superman initially had an episodic structure, breaking the story up by days. It has reportedly been turned into a continuous, single narrative in the final edit.

We reported that the budget for Superman is reportedly $225 million. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC Studios/WBD “could spend as much as $200 million on the global marketing campaign [for Superman], compared to the usual $150 million for an all-audience summer tentpole.”

The film stars David Corenswet (Twisters, Hollywood) in the dual role of Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult (the X-Men movies, Juror #2) as Lex Luthor. The film also features Edi Gathegi (The Harder They Fall), Anthony Carrigan (Barry, Gotham), Nathan Fillion (the Guardians of the Galaxy films, The Suicide Squad), Isabela Merced (Alien: Romulus), Skyler Gisondo (Licorice Pizza, Booksmart), Sara Sampaio (At Midnight), Gabriela de Faría (The Moodys), Wendell Pierce (Selma, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Alan Tudyk (Andor), Pruitt Taylor Vince (Bird Box), and Neva Howell (Greedy People).
DC Studios heads Peter Safran and Gunn are producing the film, which Gunn is directing from his own screenplay, based on characters from DC — Superman created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
AMC Theatres reported that the runtime for Superman is 2 hours and 9 minutes. The film will be released in theaters and IMAX nationwide on July 11, 2025, and internationally beginning July 9, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures.
