James McAvoy said that the X-Men films were ruined because they did not take advantage of Xavier and Magneto’s relationship. McAvoy and Michael Fassbender played the roles of Charles Xavier and Magneto.
McAvoy and Michael first appeared as mutants in X-Men: First Class, followed by its sequels, X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix. In the re-popularized version of the X-Men film franchise, it didn’t make any impact. According to McAvoy, Days of Future Past is one of the better films he made in the X-Men film franchise. Xavier and Magneto’s relationship not worked has not utilized after Days of Future Past.
Speaking to GQ Magazine, McAvoy said, “X-Men: Days of Future Past, I think, is one of the better films that I’ve been involved in.” He added, “My biggest criticism of what we did throughout the four movies was that after the first movie, we didn’t take advantage of the relationship between [Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto], which really formed the backbone of the first film.” So it was like, “Why did we just eject that massive weapon?”

According to McAvoy, he hadn’t received a call from Marvel Boss Kevin Feige yet, but if he made a call he told it will be kept secret about his casting. he told, “I’m very quick to say, ‘No, I’m done.’ Or ‘I’m not that bothered about coming back.’ Because you move forward.” Around the time we chat, rumors are swirling that he’ll be pulled back into the fold for Avengers: Secret Wars, the big centerpiece of the current run of films, which will reportedly see the cameo taps turned all the way on. So, I have to ask: Has Marvel boss Kevin Feige already called him about it? “I’ve definitely not got the call. And if I did I would definitely not be telling you.” Stay updated about Avengers: Secret Wars.
In an interview with IGN, longtime X-Men producer Simon Kinberg revealed that Feige will make the right decision on bringing the X-Men characters to the MCU. He said, “The honest answer is, I have no idea.” Kinberg added, “And the other answer is, Kevin [Feige] knows what he is doing with the MCU. I would argue he’s the greatest producer in the history of cinema. Truly. I mean, if you look at it pound for pound in terms of quality and obviously commercial success, there’s no question the latter is true. So I don’t know.”
