Jenna Ortega revealed that Wednesday Season 2 will have more horror references—inspired by classic movies like Carrie and Prom Night. She also shared that one episode will focus on the slasher genre—with many horror references throughout the season.
In a recent interview with Collider, Ortega said Wednesday Season 2 is filled with more horror references and unique visuals. She described a scene featuring Pugsley that reminds her of Full Metal Jacket.
Ortega said, “Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we’ve ever had. It’s crazy to talk about one frame like this, but there is a frame of Pugsley rolling his eyes back with this contraption around his head—that’s all I can say— and it reminds me so much of Full Metal Jacket. It’s insane. So bizarre.” Ortega added, “I just feel like there are a lot of scenes and frames, and there’s a whole episode based off of slashers, and we make a lot of horror references. So, everything about it, I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust, and therefore, we felt like we could do bigger, more elaborate sequences, which is nice”

Season 2 is still in post-production, and Ortega was doing ADR (voice recording) as recently as two weeks ago.
Ortega said, “We’re still in the edit. I was doing ADR for it two weeks ago. That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I’ll probably be working on it until the end.”
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega said, “I think the feel we’re going for is a little bit more horror-inspired in Season 2.”
Ortega cited The Masque of the Red Death—the 1964 film based on an Edgar Allan Poe short story—as an inspiration. “Not to say that suddenly we’re the goriest show of all time,” Ortega qualifies. “I mean, there’s six-year-olds watching.” She teases an example: “We’re doing this thing now where Wednesday just kind of appears. She is a little bit of a jump scare herself.”
Season 2 stars Ortega as Wednesday Addams, Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair, Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin, Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay, Victor Dorobantu as Thing, Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Ritchie Santiago, Billie Piper as Capri, Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams, Evie Templeton (role to be added), Owen Painter (role to be added), Noah Taylor (role to be added), Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams.
Tim Burton will continue his role as director and executive producer in Season 2, with Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson also directing. Creators and showrunners Gough and Millar executive produce Wednesday alongside fellow EPs Ortega, Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, Karen Richards, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, and Meredith Averill.
Production began in May 2024 in Ireland—and concluded in late November. Season 2 contains eight episodes—and is set to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
