Jennifer Coolidge Cast in Live-Action ‘Minecraft’ Movie

Jennifer Coolidge (‘The White Lotus’) has been cast in the live-action ‘Minecraft‘ movie, as confirmed by Deadline.

The filming is currently underway in New Zealand, with Coolidge joining the previously announced cast, including Jason Momoa, Pauline Chalamet, Jack Black, Matt Berry, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen.

Leaked Concept Art Reveals Impressive Production Quality in ‘Minecraft: The Movie’

Recently, leaked concept art for ‘Minecraft: The Movie’ has surfaced, with three images circulating across the internet showcasing a production quality reminiscent of ‘The Lord of the Rings.’ You can view the images below.

Directed by Jared Hess and written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, the movie is an adaptation of the first-person survival game developed and published by Mojang Studios, available on multiple platforms. The franchise, initiated in November 2011 with its first installment, recently introduced ‘Minecraft Dungeons’ in May 2020.

The Minecraft movie’s plot is still unknown, with different versions considered. One concept focused on “people taking agency over their experience in [the] digital landscape,” while another revolved around a teenage girl and her group saving their world from an Ender Dragon. It’s unclear which ideas will make it to the final film. Despite Minecraft’s lack of a defined plot, the movie aims to capture the essence of the game’s open-world building and survival. Players, alone or with friends, create structures and face challenges from creatures like creepers and zombies, mirroring the diverse modes in the game.

The film is produced by Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Vu Bui, Roy Lee, Jill Messick, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Mary Parent. The production involves collaboration between Mojang Studios, Microsoft, Vertigo Entertainment, Legendary Pictures, and On the Roam. Warner Bros. Pictures will handle distribution.

Recently, Coolidge received the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for HBO’s ‘The White Lotus’ at the 75th Emmy Awards. Her feature credits include ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘American Pie,’ Oscar-winner ‘Promising Young Woman,’ and Christopher Guest’s ‘A Mighty Wind’ and ‘Best in Show.’ She’s also part of the Netflix series ‘The Watcher’ and is set to star in the upcoming film ‘Riff Raff’ with Ed Harris, Pete Davidson, and Bill Murray.
