Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, has confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will feature some returning cast members. The team is still working on finalizing the screenplay. The sequel has been in development since Dead Men Tell No Tales.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Bruckheimer said Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will see some actors from the original films returning to the franchise, but he didn’t reveal who.
Bruckheimer revealed that the sixth installment will be a “new take,” not a complete reboot. While new characters may be introduced, it won’t feature an entirely new cast. Bruckheimer declined to name the returning cast members, teasing, “You’ll have to guess.”
Bruckheimer said, “We are still working on the script. It’ll be a new take on it. Well, not all new actors—we’ll have some back. I’m not going to tell you which ones—you’ll have to guess.”
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has mainly focused on Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley). Pirates of the Caribbean 5, however, introduced new characters with potential for future storylines—Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites) and Carina Barbossa (Kaya Scodelario).
Bruckheimer confirmed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will not directly continue the plot of Dead Men Tell No Tales, but the sixth film will still take place in the same oceanic world.
Back in June 2024, we reported that Disney was reportedly eyeing Austin Butler to play the lead in Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Butler was asked about joining the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He said, “It’s a hard one to touch because they did it so well.” Butler added, “I loved what Johnny Depp did with that.”
Craig Mazin, creator of HBO’s The Last of Us series, is teaming up with Ted Elliott, writer of the first four Pirates of the Caribbean films, for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Disney is reportedly interested in having Depp return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a supporting role.
No release date has been announced yet for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
