Johnny Depp is set to play Satan in Terry Gilliam‘s new film, ‘The Carnival at the End of Days,’ alongside Adam Driver, Jeff Bridges, and Jason Momoa. The comedy film is about God (Bridges) wanting to destroy humanity for ruining his Earth, but Satan (Depp) comes to their aid because, without them, he no longer has a job.
In a recent interview with Première during the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, Gilliam received an Honorary Crystal, and Gilliam said, “We’re trying to determine exactly when and where it will be done. At the moment, filming is scheduled for next January. We’ll see. And I have a pretty good cast: Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Adam Driver, and Jason Momoa.”
Gilliam says he chose Bridges to play God, “But he won’t be the God we’re used to. In the film, God is nature. But a nature that can speak to you. I’m going to need animation to bring it to life, because in the scene with God, there are at least fifteen animals. And it’s going to be complicated because it has to be realistic, and it’s going to be very expensive. But it’s a good scenario. It will be very funny for those who like to be offended.”
In an interview with Midi Libre, Gilliam revealed that the budget for ‘The Carnival at the End of Days’ would be around $30 million. He also shared the plot:
“This is a simple tale of God wiping out humanity for fucking up his beautiful garden Earth. There’s only one character who’s trying to save humanity and that’s Satan, because without humanity he’s lost his job and he’s an eternal character and so to live without a job is terrible. So he finds some young people and he tries to convince God that these young people are the new Adam and Eve. God still gets to wipe out humanity. It’s a comedy.”
‘The Carnival at the End of Days’ will begin filming in 2025, and we currently have no updates on the release date. Keep checking this page for the latest updates as we will post them as soon as they are available.
