Sony’s Kraven the Hunter is now playing in theaters.
We see at the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home a glimpse of Kraven appearing through the multiverse, but he doesn’t show up. It is now known that Kraven was originally considered as the main villain for No Way Home, but Marvel opted out because he was reserved for his solo movie by Sony Pictures.
Sony pushed Marvel to not add Kraven in No Way Home as they planned the Spider-Man spin-off movies in the SSU. Now, Kraven the Hunter is in theaters and receiving disappointing reviews from critics and audiences. The best thing is Sony has officially dropped the SSU.
Recently, The Wrap reported that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe has officially ended. The franchise grossed over $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Moving forward, Sony will focus on Spider-Man-related projects, including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and the Spider-Man: Noir series.
In Kraven the Hunter, Kraven (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) is recruited by Calypso (Ariana DeBose) to stop a corrupt magnate named Gregory Herd (Alessandro Nivola) from doing something bad called the Gathering of the Five. Herd hires two people, the Foreigner and the Chameleon (Fred Hechinger), to stop Kraven. Later, Kraven finds out that the Chameleon is his brother, and their father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), is the real villain and Herd’s boss. Calypso also works for Nikolai and tricks Kraven so that Nikolai can sacrifice him. But then Calypso falls in love with Kraven and helps him fight Nikolai.
The film has scored 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, 5.5/10 on IMDb, and 33% on Metacritic.
If you want to see the end of the SSU, you can watch Kraven the Hunter, but don’t expect any post-credits scenes.
