Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence are in talks to star in a Frank Sinatra biopic directed by Martin Scorsese. According to Variety, DiCaprio will portray Sinatra, while Lawrence will play his second wife, Ava Gardner.
Scorsese is not going to stop making masterpiece films. Following the success of ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ he’s planning two new films: one about Jesus and another about Sinatra.
Scorsese plans to independently finance “Life of Jesus,” based on Shūsaku Endō’s 1973 book. He hopes to work with Andrew Garfield again for the project. Filming is expected to start later this year in Israel, Italy, and Egypt.
Sinatra, born on December 12, 1915, in Hoboken, New Jersey, was an iconic American singer, actor, and producer, widely regarded as one of the greatest entertainers of the 20th century. Rising to fame during the Big Band era in the 1940s, Sinatra became known for his smooth voice, impeccable phrasing, and charismatic stage presence. His career spanned several decades, yielding numerous chart-topping hits such as “My Way,” “Fly Me to the Moon,” and “New York, New York.” Additionally, he appeared in over 60 films, earning critical acclaim for roles in movies like “From Here to Eternity,” which garnered him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
The Sinatra project might hit snags. Tina Sinatra, controlling her father’s estate, hasn’t approved the film yet. But Scorsese has lined up DiCaprio to play the singer and Lawrence as his second wife, Ava Gardner. Despite this, major studios and streamers are interested, with Sony leading the pack.
The release date is to be announced.
