James Gunn‘s Man of Tomorrow is being compared to an Avengers-level event film.
According to the new plot details, although the film remains focused on Superman (David Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), it will reportedly be a massive DC event film. “It’s still mostly focused on Superman and Lex… in scale, it’s Infinity War… different groups doing different things toward the same goal… a number of characters… a bigger Age of Ultron overall.”
Man of Tomorrow to Feature Multiple Teams and a Justice League Unlimited-Style Story
Man of Tomorrow is set to explore multiple teams, with Clark Kent and Lex Luthor off the planet while another group operates on Earth. “The focus is still on the dynamic between Lex, Superman, and Brainiac, and what they’re doing off the planet; but what happens back on Earth is exciting.”
According to scooper James Mack, Man of Tomorrow is said to feel like an episode of Justice League Unlimited. “For those who enjoy superhero fan service, with heroes coming together, teams forming, and characters interacting.”
The film will reportedly feature a scene in which Superman and ten other heroes gather to discuss plans and decide on their next steps. The scene is also said to have a dynamic similar to the Avengers’ meetings.

Barry Allen will reportedly be mentioned in Man of Tomorrow, teasing his existence in the DCU and potentially setting him up as the next step after the film. Meanwhile, new members are expected to join the Justice Gang.
Elongated Man may also appear in the movie.
DCU Batman’s First Appearance Could Be at the End of Man of Tomorrow

Fans who have been asking when Batman will be introduced in the DCU may be surprised by the ending of Man of Tomorrow.
The actor playing the DCU’s Batman will reportedly be revealed in the film. Bruce Wayne will appear at the end of the movie or in a post-credits scene, directly setting up The Brave and the Bold.
On Threads, when asked about writing his next film after Man of Tomorrow, Gunn revealed that he had already started working on it.
Gunn confirmed his progress by responding to a fan, writing, “I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly!!”
The film is written and directed by Gunn. It will be the fourth film in the DC Universe (DCU) and a follow-up to Superman (2025). In the film, Kal-El/Clark Kent/Superman (Corenswet) and Lex Luthor (Hoult) reluctantly team up to face a greater threat: the superintelligent alien android Brainiac (Lars Eidinger).
