Universal Pictures has officially shared the first-look images from Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ’85 reboot, starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. Filming has begun in New Jersey.
Kosinski’s Miami Vice ’85 is a period crime film set in mid-1980s Miami, focusing on the city’s glamour and corruption. Inspired by the original series’ pilot and early seasons, the reboot stars Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Butler as Sonny Crockett.

The film is based on the hit TV show that aired from 1984 to 1989, originally starring Don Johnson as Crockett and Philip Michael Thomas as Tubbs, two detectives working undercover in Miami.
The Miami Vice ’85 reboot will explore “the glamour and corruption of mid-’80s Miami” and is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.”
The screenplay for Miami Vice ’85 was written by Dan Gilroy, based on Anthony Yerkovich’s characters from the original television series. Eric Warren Singer worked on an earlier draft. Dylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers, with Universal executives Sara Scott and Christina Hoffrogge overseeing the project’s development.
