Marvel Studios reportedly plans to center their ‘X-Men’ reboot film around female characters, featuring Mr. Sinister as the primary antagonist. Also, Magneto is not intended to be included to bring a different feel to the film compared to previous ones, as confirmed by Daniel Richtman (@DanielRPK).
Everything We Know About Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot
According to Marvel, 20th Century Fox’s contractual obligations to actors in the X-Men franchise have carried over to Disney and are in effect until 2025. This means Marvel cannot recast or enter production on a film that includes roles held by some recent principal actors in the Fox X-Men franchise.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Marvel President Kevin Feige gave an update on the introduction of the X-Men in the MCU. He also mentioned the launch of X-Men ’97, the official sequel to X-Men: The Animated Series.
Feige said, “I don’t know if it’s delicate. It’s super exciting. But the X-Men are as solid, rich, and great a concept and characters as exist. [There’s] the return of the animated series next year, which we’re very excited about. I saw some new final episodes today, which really brought you back to the core of who the X-Men are and the soap opera that those characters represent. And then, in live action, people will see… perhaps, soon.”
Recently, the Insomniac data breach exposed that Sony has entered an agreement with Marvel to develop exclusive X-Men games, extending until the end of 2035.
Rob Liefeld, the creator of Deadpool, hinted that the X-Men would appear in the upcoming Marvel’s ‘Deadpool 3.’ He mentioned being blown away by the cast list and teased an epic crossover between Deadpool and characters like Wolverine, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Beast. We already revealed that ‘Deadpool 3’ is set to bring back some important characters from the previous ‘X-Men’ films.
The ‘X-Men’ reboot film does not have a release date as of now.
