Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for the Wonder Man series starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the titular role. The series follows Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen II) as he auditions for a part in a reboot of the classic Wonder Man movie. The series was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest.
Here are the plot details for Wonder Man:
“Aspiring Hollywood actor Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen II) is struggling to get his career off the ground. During a chance meeting with Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) — an actor whose biggest roles may be well behind him — Simon learns that legendary director Von Kovak is remaking the superhero film Wonder Man. These two actors, at opposite ends of their careers, doggedly pursue life-changing roles in this film as audiences get a peek behind the curtain of the entertainment industry.”

The series is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Episodes 1, 2), James Ponsoldt (Episodes 3, 4), Tiffany Johnson (Episodes 5, 6), and Stella Meghie (Episodes 7, 8), and written by Andrew Guest (Episodes 1, 2, 8), Paul Welsh and Madeline Walter (Episode 3), Zeke Nicholson (Episode 4), Anayat Fakhraie (Episode 5), Roja Gashtili, Julia Lerman, and Andrew Guest (Episode 6), as well as Kira Talise and Andrew Guest (Episode 7).
The cast of the series includes Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams/Wonder Man, Kingsley as Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams/Grim Reaper, Ed Harris as Neal Saroyan, Arian Moayed as P. Cleary, Zlatko Burić as Von Kovak, Bechir Sylvain as Sanford Williams, Lauren Glazier, Byron Bowers, Josh Gad, Olivia Thirlby, and X Mayo.
During the Marvel Studios NYCC panel (via Marvel), Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley opened up about playing actors in a world of superheroes and filming on location in Los Angeles.
“As an actor, there’s so much that goes into it,” shared Abdul-Mateen. “There’s vulnerability, there’s ego, there’s hopes and dreams, there’s ambition, there’s the lonely road. As Simon, I get to walk that fine line and experience all of that. I’m really excited to share Simon’s journey toward achieving his dream.”
“LA is emblematic of people’s dreams in this whole wonderful entertainment industry,” Kingsley added. “So, we were constantly fed by that wonderful working environment. It was a great gift to film it.”
Produced by Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Jonathan Schwartz, Brad Winderbaum, Cretton, and Guest.
Wonder Man will premiere on Disney+ on January 27, 2026.
