The X-Men are coming to the MCU. Marvel Studios has officially announced the cast and release date for the new X-Men reboot movie, directed by Jake Schreier.
As we know, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has introduced the X-Men to the MCU with the appearance of Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey, and now Marvel is moving the X-Men to the core of the upcoming MCU phase. It will be the first movie released after Avengers: Secret Wars.
The cast was revealed by Marvel President Kevin Feige during the Disney D23 event. Feige also confirmed that more X-Men casting announcements are coming, but said he couldn’t wait to introduce this first group of actors, many of whom met backstage at D23 for the first time.
Here are the cast details for the X-Men movie:
- Sadie Sink as Jean Grey
- Kit Connor as Cyclops
- Samara Weaving as Emma Frost
- Inde Navarrette as Rogue
- Maya Boyd as Storm
- Christopher Abbott as Professor X
- Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury / Mr. Sinister
Adam Driver was previously rumored to play the role of Magneto, but his role is now revealed to be the main villain, Mr. Sinister. However, he couldn’t attend D23 because he was already at Pinewood Studios in the UK filming on a soundstage. He sent a pre-recorded video message instead of flying to Anaheim for the event. In the footage, he jokes about expecting to play Magneto before confirming his role as Nathaniel Essex/Mister Sinister.
Driver said, “When Kevin told me to show up for X-Men, I assumed he meant on set. So instead of being there in California, I’m here at Pinewood on this very lonely soundstage. Kevin and I have been talking for years about maybe joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I think we finally found the perfect film at the perfect time. So I’m very excited to be playing Mag…. Nope. Even better. Nathaniel Milbury. So I’ll be right here, waiting for everybody to show up.”
According to insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), Marvel Studios’ new X-Men team is reportedly expected to be based around the original five members, with some additional characters.
The main premise is: “After years in hiding out of fear of rejection and persecution, the mutants would finally step out of the shadows to save the world and prove they’re not a threat.”
Directed by Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. It will focus on a coming-of-age story and follow a younger team that grows over time.
The X-Men movie will be released exclusively in theaters on May 5, 2028.
