Warning: This post contains spoilers for the X-Men reboot movie.
The upcoming Marvel X-Men reboot is close to its official announcement, with expectations now pointing to San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Marvel Studios will hold its Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PT.
According to scooper James Mack, the X-Men reboot is reportedly expected to introduce mutants who have never appeared in live-action before.
Marvel Studios is also reportedly planning to deliver a more colorful, fun, and action-packed X-Men movie under the direction of Jake Schreier. The goal is to capture the spirit of X-Men ’97 while moving away from the darker tone of the Fox-era films.
Who Could Join Marvel’s X-Men Reboot?

Odessa A’zion is reportedly being considered to play Rogue in Jake Schreier’s X-Men reboot, while Milo Manheim (Tangled) is said to be in negotiations for an undisclosed role. Wagner Moura is reportedly Marvel Studios’ top choice to portray Mister Sinister, while Dwayne Johnson is reportedly the studio’s top choice for Apocalypse.
Back in an interview with Collider, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said the new X-Men film will feature a younger cast.
Feige said, “A younger demographic… because X-Men, as it was in the comics, will be a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast-driven movie.”
According to insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), the X-Men reboot will have a coming-of-age story focus. It will follow a younger team that grows over time, with the original five X-Men serving as the main group: Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Iceman, and Angel.
Speaking to Deadline, co-writer Lee Sung Jin said Marvel’s X-Men reboot will take a character-first approach. Marvel wants audiences to connect with the characters first before focusing on large-scale action or world-ending stakes. Jin said he and Joanna Calo are concentrating on what makes each character unique and emotionally relatable.
He said, “I grew up with X-Men, and I think there’s no better set of characters that exemplify feeling othered and feeling different from the world. We want to continue exploring that theme, and it couldn’t be more relevant today in 2026.”
“They want to go back to character first, which is the type of writing that Joanna and I do best,” he said. “We’re thinking about these characters and what makes them tick—what parts of them feel universally relatable—and leading with that before we start thinking about plots, world-ending stakes, and all that.”
“I think audiences are always hungry for character-first storytelling,” Jin added. “That’s what makes storytelling resonate—that you’re able to see and identify parts of yourself in these people on the big screen.”
The film will be directed by Jake Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo. Filming is set to begin in the UK later this year.
Release date is TBA.
