Matthew Vaughn is highly inspired by Amazon’s ‘The Boys‘ series, which he plans to make the upcoming ‘Kick-Ass‘ reboot similar to.
Speaking to Collider, Vaughn discussed his upcoming projects, including the ‘Kick-Ass’ reboot film. He mentioned that the script is halfway completed and confirmed that it will be an R-rated superhero movie similar to ‘The Boys’ series.
Vaughn said, “We’re halfway through. Dare I say—and it’s going to be a cliché coming out of this head of mine—it is a very, very meta-universe. Kick-Ass was reinventing and creating an R-rated superhero, and no one was doing it. This is taking that whole concept to a worthy… not even a sequel because it’s just a whole new way of doing Kick-Ass, which couldn’t be more Kick-Ass.”
‘Kick-Ass’ is a movie franchise about regular people becoming superheroes. The first film, released in 2010 and directed by Vaughn, introduces Dave Lizewski, who becomes Kick-Ass. He teams up with other vigilantes like Hit-Girl and her father, Big Daddy. The 2013 sequel, directed by Jeff Wadlow, sees Kick-Ass joining a superhero team to battle a new villain.
During the New York Comic Con, Vaughn confirmed he’s directing ‘Kingsman 3‘ next year and another Kick-Ass film.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Vaughn said, “We will be doing a reboot of Kick-Ass next year, but it’s a total… It’s like, It’s as brave as the first one but totally different and more reflective of the times we’re in.”
Aaron Taylor-Johnson played the role of Dave Lizewski/Kick-Ass and Chloe Grace Moretz as Mindy Macready/Hit-Girl.
The ‘Kick-Ass’ reboot is set to begin filming by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
