Miriam Margolyes was offered a role in Marvel‘s ‘Agatha‘ but declined after being offered half of her requested salary. She sought $1.2M for a 4-month stay in Georgia, but the offer presented was for half a million dollars.

Why did Miriam Margolyes turn down the Marvel role?

In an interview with News.com.au, Margolyes revealed that she recently turned down a role in the Marvel series ‘Agatha’.

Margolyes said, “They contacted me and said, ‘We’re doing a story about witches’. I thought, ‘Oh god, not witches again because I’ve done that with Harry Potter’.”

Margolyes continued, “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months.”

“So I just said, ‘Well, I want a million pounds (A$1.9 million)’ and they said, ‘You can have half a million’, and I said, ‘No, I don’t want to do it’, so it just stopped.”

The show, previously titled ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries,’ will now simply go by ‘Agatha.’ The previously announced titles for the show will be used as episode titles.

Created by Jac Schaeffer. It is based on the Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn) and serves as a spin-off from the series WandaVision.

An official new synopsis for ‘Agatha’ has surfaced online:

“When a new series of tragedies strike the city of Westview again, the newly reformed Agatha Harkness will be forced to join forces with the reincarnation of her former enemy’s son, Billy Kaplan, to discover what force from the past is causing chaos in Westview as she seeks redemption for her mistakes of the past.”

The show also stars Joe Locke as Wiccan, Ali Ahn as Alice, Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale, Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal, and Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight during the 30th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Hahn says that people will be surprised when asked about the Agatha series. Hahn said, “I wish I could tell you anything, but I can tell you that it’s pretty fabulous. I’m going to say that I was going to say fantastic, and then I decided to go with fabulous, but it’s both; it’s an amazing cast.”

‘Agatha’ will premiere on Disney+ on September 19, 2024. It will consist of 9 episodes, with each episode having a runtime of 30 minutes.
