Walt Disney Animation Studios has made a surprise announcement: the sequel to ‘Moana‘ is in the works. Also, a live-action reimagining is scheduled to hit theaters on June 27, 2025.
In a statement, Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said, “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”
Lin-Manuel Miranda will not return to co-write the songs for ‘Moana 2’. The songs will be penned by Abigail Barlow, Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and Emily Bear. David Derrick Jr., who previously served as a storyboard artist for the original film, will take the helm as director.
