Here are the plot details for Mortal Kombat 2:
From New Line Cinema comes the latest high‑stakes chapter in the blockbuster video game franchise, Mortal Kombat 2. This time, the fan‑favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no‑holds‑barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn, a threat that endangers the very existence of Earthrealm and its defenders.

Karl Urban stars as Johnny Cage, alongside Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, and Damon Herriman, with Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi‑Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi/Scorpion.
Director Simon McQuoid returns to helm the follow‑up to his explosive 2021 cinematic adventure, from a screenplay by Jeremy Slater, based on the video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. The film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid, with Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff serving as executive producers.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Slater revealed that the test screenings felt like Avengers: Endgame, with audiences cheering and jumping out of their seats.
Slater said, “I’m so excited for people to see the movie. It’s been done for a while — we’ve been waiting for the right release date and the right window. I’ve been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame — they were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing, and they are loving it. It’s one of the greatest moments of my life. That’s why you get into this business.”
Joining McQuoid behind the camera are director of photography Stephen F. Windon, production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland, with casting by Rich Delia and music by Benjamin Wallfisch.
New Line Cinema presents an Atomic Monster/Broken Road Production, a Fireside Films Production, Mortal Kombat 2. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures—arriving only in theaters and IMAX® across North America on October 24, 2025, and internationally beginning October 22, 2025.
