Netflix revealed the first trailer for the ‘Bird Box‘ spin-off ‘Bird Box Barcelona‘, starring Diego Calva, Mario Casas, and Georgina Campbell. The Barcelona-set story expands the blockbuster “Bird Box” universe. The film is set to premiere on July 14 on Netflix. Watch the trailer below.
What Is The Plot Of ‘Bird Box Barcelona’?
In ‘Bird Box Barcelona’, After a mysterious force decimates the global population by causing all who see it to take their own lives, Sebastián (Mario Casas) and his daughter, Anna (Alejandra Howard), navigate the desolate streets of Barcelona. As they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat looms that’s even more sinister than the unseen creatures.
In postapocalyptic Spain, Sebastián and Anna must hide their eyes from daylight to avoid the powerful entity that, when looked at with the naked eye, makes people kill themselves. When the pair joins a group of blindfolded strangers, they’re warned of an imminent threat that further jeopardizes their safety.
Bird Box Barcelona is an extension of the story depicted in the first film of this cinematic universe, Bird Box, which is based on the novel with the same title by Josh Malerman. Set in parallel with the events of Bird Box, Bird Box Barcelona unfolds concurrently.
In Bird Box Barcelona, the character Sebastián is portrayed by Mario Casas, known for his roles in “The Innocent” and “Cross the Line.” Alejandra Howard, who is recognized for her performances in “The Wasteland” and “Fatima,” takes on the role of Anna. Claire is played by Georgina Campbell, who has appeared in “Barbarian” and “All My Friends Hate Me.” Naila Schuberth, known for her work in “Blackout,” portrays the character Sofia. Padre Esteban is portrayed by Leonardo Sbaraglia, notable for his roles in “Wandering Heart” and “Today We Fix the World.” Diego Calva, known for his appearances in “Babylon” and “Narcos: Mexico,” portrays the character Octavio.
The film is written and directed by Álex Pastor and David Pastor. From the producers of Bird Box (2018), Bird Box Barcelona takes place in a parallel timeline to the original.
‘Bird Box Barcelona’ will premiere on July 14 on Netflix.
