Netflix has officially announced that filming for the live-action Assassin’s Creed series has begun in Rome, Italy, along with a listing of the complete cast.
According to the streamer, the “new chapter” has its coordinates locked on 64 AD. It follows an original story set in the heart of the Roman Empire, with production primarily filming at the storied Cinecittà Studios.

Here’s the plot details: “Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
Emmy nominees Roberto Patino and David Wiener will serve as creators, showrunners, and executive producers of the series.
The Assassin’s Creed series has sold over 230 million copies, making it one of the most successful game franchises ever.
In a joint statement, Wiener and Patino said, “We’ve been fans of Assassin’s Creed since its release in 2007. Every day we work on this show, we come away excited and humbled by the possibilities that Assassin’s Creed opens to us. Beneath the scope, the spectacle, the parkour and the thrills is a baseline for the most essential kind of human story — about people searching for purpose, struggling with questions of identity and destiny and faith. Netflix has yet to confirm an official release date for the Assassin’s Creed series.
