The new DCU logo was revealed in the intro of ‘Blue Beetle,’ and it looks better and neater than the previous ones. ‘Blue Beetle’ was initially considered separate from the DCEU, but after its release, it has been confirmed to be connected to the DCU. ‘Blue Beetle’ earned over $110 million at the global box office, surpassing its $104 million budget. The DCU is a reboot of the DCEU, but not a complete one. James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the DCU projects, with writers like Drew Goddard, Jeremy Slater, Christina Hodson, Christal Henry, and Tom King shaping the story. They planned two chapters for an eight-to-ten-year plan, starting with “Gods and Monsters,” featuring films like Superman: Legacy and TV series like Creature Commandos. This mix combined iconic DC characters with lesser-known ones. Projects outside this shared universe were called “DC Elseworlds.”
Gunn stated that ‘The Flash‘ would reset the DCEU continuity, creating a “soft reboot.” Some cast members and elements would stay, while others would change. Viola Davis and John Cena would reprise their roles in the DCU, with a memory of past events. There’s potential for Momoa, Gadot, Miller, and Levi to return, but it’s not confirmed. No actor would play multiple characters.
The upcoming DC film is ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ a sequel to the 2018 “Aquaman” and the final installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It’s directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa as Aquaman, alongside Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ will hit theaters on December 20, 2023.
‘Blue Beetle’ will be available for purchase or rental on Digital HD platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies & TV on September 19, 2023.
