The first plot details for Zach Cregger‘s Resident Evil have been revealed, as filming has begun.

According to Prague Morning, the Resident Evil movie has begun filming in Prague, with scenes being shot in city streets and at Barrandov Studios.

Recently, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cregger said his Resident Evil script is done and he has already storyboarded the entire film. He said, “That’s an original screenplay, by the way. It’s a weird story. I wrote it and I love the story. It has nothing to do with any of the other Resident Evil movies. If I do my job, it will feel fresh and edgy and weird.”

The first plot details for Zach Cregger's Resident Evil have been revealed as filming begins in Prague, with scenes shot in city streets and at Barrandov Studios.

Here are the plot details for the upcoming Resident Evil movie:

Bryan (Austin Abrams), a laid-back organ courier, is sent on a late-night delivery to Raccoon City General Hospital. En route through a snowy mountain road, he accidentally hits a strange woman with his car. She survives — but something is very wrong. As he tries to help, Bryan stumbles into a full-blown outbreak involving horrifying tentacle-based mutations and bio-engineered monstrosities.

Scooper DanielRPK reported that Cregger’s Resident Evil movie will reportedly include multiple references to the games, including an RCPD jacket, Umbrella, and Raccoon City.

Speaking to Inverse, Cregger said his Resident Evil film will be an original story set in the universe and will not include any characters from the games.

“It is obedient to the lore of the games; it’s just a different story,” Cregger continued. “I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because Leon’s story is told in the games. [Fans] already have that.”

Cregger is directing the film based on the popular Resident Evil horror video game franchise, co-writing the screenplay with Shay Hatten. The movie is being produced and co-financed by Constantin Film, with producers Robert Kulzer, Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, and PlayStation Productions also attached.

As of now, Abrams (Euphoria, Weapons) is the only confirmed cast member, as he will play the role of Bryan. There are also rumors that Oscar winner Mikey Madison is in negotiations for the lead role.

The Resident Evil movie will hit theaters on September 18, 2026.
