A new plot synopsis for DC’s Peacemaker Season 2 has been revealed. The show will focus on the world not accepting Christopher Smith/Peacemaker (John Cena) as a hero. He travels to a parallel dimension where he is celebrated as a hero and has a better life—but the situation comes with dire consequences.

In Season 2, Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.

Peacemaker Season 2 takes place one month after the events of Superman, and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced) both appear in the first episode.
James Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed three, including the first. Gunn, Peter Safran, and John Cena serve as executive producers. Greg Mottola, Peter Sollett, and Althea Jones also direct. Based on characters from DC, Peacemaker is produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company in association with Warner Bros. Television.
The show is set in the DC Universe (DCU) and serves as a “soft reboot” of the series, which originally spun off from the 2021 DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film The Suicide Squad.
According to Gunn, about Season 2’s Smith: “I really like TV shows where the characters don’t just return every season and they’re the same exact characters. I want to see growth. I want to see change — and sometimes regression.” He added, “Peacemaker is a different guy this year. He’s dealing with the demons he uncovered from the first season and trying to face them. The world isn’t accepting him the way he is — they aren’t accepting him as a hero.”

Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on August 21, 2025, at 9 PM ET/PT on HBO Max.
