For Sonic the Hedgehog 4, Paramount Pictures is eyeing a top-tier actress to voice Amy Rose, the pink-quilled, hammer-wielding hedgehog from SEGA’s hit platformer series.
Amy Rose was teased in the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, appearing alongside another fan-favorite character confirmed for the 2027 sequel: Metal Sonic.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, his Patreon post revealed that Paramount is looking for an Anya Taylor-Joy–type actress to voice Amy. She is best known for her roles in The Queen’s Gambit, The Witch, Last Night in Soho, Furiosa, The Menu, Split, and Glass.

Paramount and SEGA have followed this strategy before, casting big names like Keanu Reeves as Shadow and Idris Elba as Knuckles. Amy’s casting remains uncertain, especially since Tails was voiced by longtime game actress Colleen O’Shaughnessey. Still, reports say Paramount has one key requirement for choosing Amy’s voice in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is reportedly expected to have a higher budget than the previous films and will explore a “darker future.”

It is also reported that Paramount and SEGA are considering a major change to the title of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. The studios are looking to rename the fourth Sonic movie to Sonic CD, directly referencing the classic 1993 video game Sonic CD, which was released for the Sega CD console add-on. In that story, Amy is used as a damsel in distress for Sonic to rescue in a quest across time.
Jeff Fowler, who directed the three Sonic the Hedgehog films, will return to direct the fourth movie from a screenplay by Pat Casey, John Whittington, and Josh Miller. Filming is set to begin soon in Vancouver, Canada. The ensemble cast features James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, and Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog, a character beloved by fans of the video games.

According to the Jim Carrey Online website, Paramount is actively trying to get Jim Carrey back for Sonic 4, and his return is possible. In an interview after the release of Sonic 3, he said he’s ‘definitely open’ to returning as Robotnik, explaining that it always comes down to the idea: ‘Generally, they come to me with the next concept. If I go, “That sounds fun,” then I’ll do it.’ It’s a statement that fits Jim’s career perfectly — one built not on obligation, but on passion and playfulness.
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 / Sonic CD will hit theaters on March 19, 2027, by Paramount Pictures.
