Disney is making a big change in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6 movie, which is currently in pre-production.
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider report, Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will reportedly feature Jack Sparrow’s son in a lead role, with Margot Robbie also likely to appear.
The film is a priority for Disney’s new leadership, and Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917, Last Night in Soho) is currently in talks to write the script.
We previously reported, based on a production rumor, that Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow will have a reduced role in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, while Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann are also expected to return.
Back in July 2025, speaking to Screen Rant, Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will feature some actors from the original films returning to the franchise, though he did not specify who.
Bruckheimer shared that the sixth installment will be a “new take,” rather than a complete reboot. While new characters may be introduced, it will not feature an entirely new cast. He declined to name the returning cast members, teasing, “You’ll have to guess.”
Two months later, speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer says that Johnny Depp was open to reprising Jack Sparrow. He said, “If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it. It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”
Recently, Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski said he believes the franchise still has more stories to tell but confirmed he has no plans to return to direct another installment.
Verbinski said, “I just don’t have anything.” He added, “I feel like I did three, and for me, it was a great opportunity to learn and to try something.” Verbinski continued, “I think we have to be at a place where the wheels are about to fall off. Once you kind of know how to do something, it becomes less interesting or less dangerous. There’s just so little time, and there are so many stories to tell.”
Depp starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, which grossed over $4.5 billion at the global box office.
