The live-action ‘Moana‘ film is scheduled to begin filming in June 2024 in Hawaii and Atlanta, with production expected to conclude by the end of September.
Directed by Thomas Kail and featuring a screenplay by Jared Bush, who penned the original animated film, the live-action ‘Moana’ will also see Lin-Manuel Miranda returning to compose the music.
Dwayne Johnson will return as Maui in the live-action ‘Moana’ film, also serving as a producer through his company. Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, will executive produce. However, she won’t reprise her role, as a new actor has been cast according to Johnson.
Speaking to Variety, Cravalho said, “It feels like the ‘Moana’ universe is expanding and I love that.” Cravalho added, “I love that Moana is a hero to all. It changed what it meant to be a Disney princess. You can be strong and brave and stand up against a demigod. It feels really good that more and more generations are going to be able to relate to this character.”
According to reports, Disney is hosting a global open casting call for the role of Gramma Tala in the upcoming live-action adaptation of ‘Moana’.
