Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Two) has been cast alongside Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3) in a new sci-fi thriller, ‘Mercy‘. Filming is scheduled to begin this spring.
Directed by Timur Bekmambetov from a screenplay by Marco van Belle. According to the film’s plot, “Set in the near future when capital crime has increased, Mercy follows a detective (Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence.”
The project, acquired by Amazon MGM Studios, comes from Charles Roven, who recently earned his second Oscar nomination for Best Picture with ‘Oppenheimer‘.
Roven is producing ‘Mercy’ with Atlas Entertainment SVP Robert Amidon, alongside Bekmambetov’s BEL banner. Additionally, Majd Nassif will produce.
Recently, Ferguson reprised her role as Lady Jessica in Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Two’. She is also known for starring in ‘The Greatest Showman‘ and the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise – most recently in ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One‘. Additionally, she was seen starring and producing on the Apple TV+ series ‘Silo‘, which is currently filming its second season.
In 2023, Pratt reprised his role as Peter Quill/Star-Lord in Marvel Studios’ ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3‘ and also voiced the Nintendo mascot Mario in ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘, based on the video game series of the same name. He will next voice the titular cat in the upcoming animated film ‘The Garfield Movie‘.
The release date for ‘Mercy’ is set for 2025.
