Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly show Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom unmasked in only a few scenes.
According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, the MCU heroes won’t see who’s behind Doctor Doom’s mask in Avengers: Doomsday. Also, Doctor Doom will reportedly have an accent in Doomsday, and he won’t sound like Tony Stark.
For now, in the MCU, Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom is only planned for the Multiverse-era Avengers films. Marvel Studios is said to introduce a new “Prime Doom” after Secret Wars resets the MCU. Maybe Downey Jr.’s Doom will serve as a Tony Stark–style mirror matchup.
Last year, the Russo Brothers confirmed to Time that Tony Stark’s death in Avengers: Endgame is part of Doctor Doom’s story in Avengers: Doomsday.
“We can’t explain that, as it’s part of the story. But there’s nobody else in the world who could play this character the way he’s about to.”
Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom will be a one-and-done character in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The films will also reveal why Doctor Doom looks like Tony Stark.
Recently, Marvel Comics has officially announced Doomquest, a ten-issue series by writer Ryan North and artist Francesco Mobili. The story centers on Doctor Doom traveling across time and space to rewrite history. The series launches May 27, 2026.
As we previously reported, Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom originates from Earth-828, which is linked to The Fantastic Four: First Steps. His role is said to mirror Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War.
Doom believes himself to be the hero, shaped by the loss of his family due to the actions of Steve Rogers, who altered events in the past. Viewing the multiversal incursions as a grave threat, Doom is willing to use any force necessary to stop them and ultimately seize control.
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
