The Russo brothers revealed that the relationship between Doctor Doom and Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday will be similar to the emotional conflict between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War.
In a recent interview with AGBO, the Russo Brothers compared Doctor Doom and Steve’s dynamic in Avengers: Doomsday to Tony and Steve’s relationship in Civil War.
The filmmakers explained that the success of Civil War came from both characters being understandable and emotionally relatable to audiences. According to the Russos, fans are still divided today over whether Tony Stark or Steve Rogers was more justified during the events of Civil War.
Anthony Russo said, “Tony Stark and Steve Rogers remain very empathetic and rootable and you’ll see to this day people are divided over who was more relatable in that film [Civil War].
“It’s very much this sort of unresolved aspirations of those characters and flaws of those characters. It continues to unfold as we move into Doomsday.”

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo described Avengers: Doomsday as a “complete reinvention” for the MCU. The movie’s tone, story, and subject matter are expected to feel very different from previous Avengers films.
Joe Russo and Anthony Russo said, “Doomsday is a complete reinvention. It’s another swing. I don’t think the audience is expecting it at all — what happens in the movie and its tone and its subject matter. It feels like another profound shift for them in that serialized story.”
The directors see Doom’s introduction as a unique opportunity to build a brand-new character dynamic within the MCU.
“The ability to introduce an important new character that audiences don’t yet have a relationship with going into this film is an incredible part of it.”
Directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by their longtime collaborator Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron.
