Sean Baker’s ‘Anora’ Starring Mikey Madison Receives Standing Ovation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival: Madison Gains Best Actress Buzz for Her “Star-Making” Performance

Sean Baker‘s ‘Anora‘ starring Mikey Madison had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 21, 2024. Also, it is fantastic news that Madison is receiving Oscar’s Best Actress buzz for her “star-making” performance in the film.

The film after the screening has received a huge standing ovation for the incredible director Sean Baker for his latest study of American sex workers, which is a hilariously heartbreaking ’70s-coded comedy, and for Madison, Yura Borisov, and Ivy Wolk.

Anora Reviews:

We have listed some of the important reviews from the X Platform about the film’s reaction; you can check them out below.

According to Karl Delossantos @ Cannes, “Anora is a masterpiece and maybe Sean Baker’s best. A kinetic laugh-a-minute rom-com quasi-thriller that is entertaining, hilarious, and profound in its final moments. Mikey Madison gives a star-born performance and is immediately a contender for Best Actress. Phenomenal.”

According to Beyond Fest, “Anora is a marvel that only Sean Baker could create. It isn’t just his best film; it’s a great film. Mikey Madison owns it with an all-timer performance, which will make her a bona fide star. No one makes films like Sean Baker because no one else can; he’s in a league of his own.”

According to Yasmine, “Anora is superb. A complete powerhouse display from Mikey Madison. It is raw, a hell of a good time, and dare I say some of Baker’s very best work? Mark Eydelshteyn delivers the breakout performance we’re going to be talking about all year long.”

The film also stars Mark Eydelshteyn, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, and Luna Sofia Miranda.

According to the film’s official logline, “Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.”

Produced by Baker, Samantha Quan, and Alex Coco, the film is a production of FilmNation Entertainment and Cre Film, and is distributed by Neon.

Neon hasn’t yet revealed a release date for ‘Anora,’ but we can expect the film to be released in 2025.
