People who watched Ryan Coogler‘s Sinners may have wondered how the costumes so perfectly captured a vampire mood. It has been confirmed that Marvel Studios sold all the costumes—originally made for the Blade reboot—to the production team behind Sinners.
Speaking to ScreenCrush: The Podcast!, Ironheart producer Sev Ohanian revealed that the costumes worn by the extras in Sinners were originally made for the Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali.

Blade was originally supposed to take place in the past, but since the film has made no progress in production, Marvel Studios sold all those costumes to the Sinners production team.
Ohanian said, “You guys, want to hear a fun Marvel Easter egg? Shout out to Marvel Studios. Ruth Carter was working on the Blade movie that ended up not shooting — though I think they’re still going to make it. I’m not sure what the current schedule is for that. At one point, that film was going to be set in the past — and she’s mentioned this before — around the same era as Sinners. So, she happened to have a warehouse full of period-appropriate clothes.

Ohanian added, “And we were like, ‘Yo, we have to shoot this movie tomorrow.’ And Marvel was generous and kind enough to let us basically purchase it at cost. A lot of the background actors in our movie — oh my gosh — are wearing those clothes. So, special shout out to Marvel for making that happen. I think it was just for the background actors, but maybe one of the main characters is wearing something too. I’m not sure.”
As of now, the production of Blade is on hold. Marvel President Kevin Feige and Ali have not yet finalized the script. Additionally, Disney has not included the movie in its release schedule through 2028.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Delroy Lindo revealed that his character in the Blade movie was originally meant to be the leader of a Black community, similar to Marcus Garvey. Much like his role in Coogler’s Sinners, the character had built and led a strong, self-sufficient community.
Sinners is now available on digital platforms.
