Sony Pictures has acquired the worldwide rights to ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,’ the fantasy romance starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, to be directed by ‘After Yang’ director Kogonada.
What is ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ About?
According to Deadline, Sony Pictures has sealed a deal worth $50 million for the project. Described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the unbelievable journey that connects them,” filming will begin this spring in California.
Speaking to Deadline, Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, said, “Every once in a great while in this job, you read a script so special and original that you fly to the last page, inspired and uplifted. A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, by Seth Reiss, is such a script, and together with the superb director Kogonada, the perfect cast of Colin and Margot, and top-flight producers Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin, and Ryan Friedkin, it is a project from heaven. We believe the audience is desperate for originality, and we feel honored and grateful to all involved to have won out for it.”
Imperative Entertainment, known for ‘Killers of the Flower Moon,’ is producing the film, with financing provided by 30West. Director Kogonada, recognized for ‘Pachinko’ and ‘After Yang,’ will helm the project from an original script penned by Seth Reiss, the writer behind ‘The Menu.’
The package for ‘Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ was brought to Sony Pictures by Joe Matukewicz, President of Worldwide Acquisitions, along with his team including Virginia Longmuir, EVP of Business Affairs, Katie Anderson, VP of Worldwide Acquisitions, and Elan Kovo, VP of Business Development. The deal was finalized in Berlin.

Produced by Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Ryan Friedkin, alongside Seth Reiss and Youree Henley. Executive producers include Kogonada, Ilene Feldman, and Ori Eisen from Original Films. Financing is provided by 30West, while international sales are being managed by Neon.
The release date for ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ has not been announced yet.
