Marvel President Kevin Feige is reportedly worried about the script for Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man 4, as it doesn’t meet expectations for a follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
According to Daniel Richtman in his new Patreon post, the script for Spider-Man 4 is reportedly facing problems. The writing team—Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers—is working to fix the plot and improve the story. Following the success of ‘No Way Home,’ Feige (Marvel) and Sony Pictures feel pressured to deliver something even better.
Filming is scheduled to begin in June in the United Kingdom, with wrapping planned for October 2025. Before filming starts, the final draft of the script will be completed and reviewed. Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus) reports that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are planning another multiverse-themed Spider-Man 4, with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield taking on larger roles. The studios aim to create a dynamic team-up film — similar to Deadpool & Wolverine — with Spider-Man and Venom as the primary duo.
According to reports, Knull will be the main antagonist — as multiple factors align with his introduction. His power may be ‘nerfed’ — with explanations tied to his state after leaving Klyntar.
According to The InSneider report, Zendaya, who plays Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones in the Spider-Man movies, will reportedly have a ‘severely reduced’ role in Spider-Man 4 due to scheduling conflicts with several other films she has signed on for. Her role in the movie is now described as ‘minor.’
Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) will direct the film from a screenplay by McKenna and Sommers, it will be the fourth installment of the Spider-Man series. “Following the events of Avengers: Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man. However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his friends and forcing Peter to reconsider his promise. With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves.”
Produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man 4 arrives in theaters on July 24, 2026.
