A post-credits scene featuring Spot (Jason Schwartzman) beating up Spidey villains who mocked him was cut from ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘.
Spot’s Cut Scenes in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
According to Phil Lord and producing partner Christopher Miller, in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ there was a scene that got cut where Spot tries to get a drink at a Spidey villain bar but fails because no one notices him. Another scene was planned where Spot returns to the bar as a powerful character and defeats all the villains who made fun of him.
During an interview with IndieWire, Lord said the first scene had Spot hanging out at a Spidey villain bar but couldn’t get a drink because no one would notice him. ” And then he finally steals the drink for himself, and he pours it down, and it all leaks out of his holes.” Lord added, “He’s the dorkiest villain. A great line that Chris wrote, though: ‘Trying to fill a hole in his heart with more holes.’ Not a great method.”
Spot’s Transformation in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’
Alan Hawkins, the head of the character animation, shared that one of his favorite moments in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ was witnessing Spot go from being bullied to effortlessly defeating his tormentors. Hawkins emphasized the importance of including both sequences for the desired impact.
Hawkins was part of a talented team at Sony Pictures Imageworks, consisting of 1,000 crew members, who pushed the boundaries set by the award-winning “Into the Spider-Verse.” They developed new tools to bring intricate comic book designs into 3D animation. Spot, being a complex character, required the use of these tools to achieve his distinctive looks. This involved creating detailed line art, unique ink drips, and multiple edge styles.
