A sequel to The Housemaid is in development at Lionsgate, with Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone set to return. It has also been confirmed that director Paul Feig will reprise his role behind the camera.
According to Variety, the sequel is titled The Housemaid’s Secret, which will be based on the second novel in Freida McFadden’s best-selling trilogy. Filming will begin this year.
After earning $133 million in its first two and a half weeks, The Housemaid is expected to top $200 million worldwide, shaping up to be one of Lionsgate’s most profitable releases of the decade.

In a statement, Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group chair said, “It’s clear from both the global box office and the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next.”
Fogelson added, “We believed in these stories from the very beginning, and we are beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s story to life on screen in collaboration with our outstanding creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney.” He continued, “‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is another wildly thrilling book in Freida’s series that has captivated readers worldwide, and we look forward to translating it into a similarly rousing and riotous moviegoing experience.”
The Housemaid is a wildly entertaining thriller starring Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, based on the best-selling book. From director Paul Feig, the film plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion and nothing is as it seems. Trying to escape her past, Millie (Sweeney) accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). What begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous—a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.
The sequel reunites much of the original creative team, with Rebecca Sonnenshine returning as screenwriter, producers Todd Lieberman, Feig, and Laura Fischer back on board, and Sweeney and McFadden serving as executive producers, while Lionsgate’s Chelsea Kujawa and Maria Ascanio oversee the project.
The Housemaid book series has sold over 12 million copies, with the second book reaching four million, and the first novel becoming a long-running New York Times bestseller and award winner.
The sequel, The Housemaid’s Secret, arrives in theaters in 2027.
