Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has been praised as a major improvement over the previous Transformers movies directed by Michael Bay, although that may not be saying much. The film, which runs for two hours, sometimes feels like a drawn-out Saturday morning cartoon, overstaying its welcome. However, Mirage shines as a standout character and becomes a personal favorite, alongside the beloved Bumblebee.
Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on the ‘90s globetrotting adventure with the Autobots and introduce a whole new faction of Transformers – the Maximals – to join them as allies in the existing battle for earth. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos as Noah Diaz and Dominique Fishback as Elena Wallace, the film arrives in theatres on June 9, 2023.
The film opens with the dark god Unicron devouring a planet inhabited by the Maximals, sending Scourge and the Terrorcons to Earth. Maximal leader Apelinq sacrifices himself to save some Maximals, leaving Optimus Primal in charge.
In Brooklyn, in 1994, Noah, a struggling ex-military electronics expert, encounters Elena, an artifact researcher. They stumble upon a Transwarp Key, triggering a series of events. Noah discovers Mirage is a Transformer and teams up with Optimus Prime and the Autobots to retrieve the Transwarp Key. Bumblebee is killed, and Scourge steals the Key. Airazor, a Maximal, aids Optimus, and they follow her to Peru.
In Peru, the Autobots meet Wheeljack and search for the other half of the Key. They battle the Terrorcons, but Scourge corrupts Airazor. The Autobots join forces with the Maximals and the human descendants who guard them. Airazor’s corruption leads to a conflict, and Scourge steals the remaining Key, opening a portal for Unicron.
The Autobots and Maximals unite against the Terrorcons. Elena helps find an access code while Bumblebee is resurrected. Noah fights Scourge with Mirage’s assistance, but Optimus Prime is overpowered. Unicron begins to emerge through the portal. Stratosphere arrives, and Elena enters the access code, but the console is destroyed.
Prime defeats Scourge and prepares to destroy the Terrorcon tower. Noah saves Optimus from the collapsing portal, and Optimus Primal reveals Unicron’s potential return. Noah applies for a security job, Elena gains recognition, and Noah is approached by a man from G.I. Joe.
