‘Coyote vs. Acme‘ is now expected to be shelved and deleted forever. Warner Bros wanted $75M – $80M for the film and rejected offers from Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount, refusing to let them counter-offer, as confirmed by The Wrap.
According to reports, David Zaslav, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, never watched ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ and is still intent on deleting the movie. Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy only viewed a director’s cut.
Paul Scheer, who attended a screening of ‘Coyote vs. Acme,’ said, “What was so exciting was that it felt like the film captured the voice of the Looney Tunes that we love in a way none of the other feature versions have ever done.”
Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro said about the film, “There’s a lot of action scenes in the movie and hysterical jokes that can easily be used in trailers. I’ve seen the movie. Look out for the Porky Pig pant-less joke. The sense of humor rivals the sophistication of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch, ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ combines live-action and animation. It’s based on the Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote and the Acme Corporation, as well as a 1990 article in The New Yorker by Ian Frazier.
In the live-action cast, Will Forte portrays Wile E. Coyote’s lawyer, while John Cena plays the role of the Acme Corporation’s lawyer. Other cast members include Lana Condor and P.J. Byrne. In the voice and animated cast, Wile E. Coyote, a silent character planning to sue Acme Corporation, is voiced and animated, alongside the Road Runner, who perpetually outwits Wile E. Coyote.
Warner Bros. is using the same tactics as with ‘Batgirl’, citing quality reasons. Despite 95% positive reviews from a private screening of ‘Coyote vs. Acme’, the studio’s decision to scrap the movie seems baseless.
