Wes Anderson‘s ‘Asteroid City‘ opened with a 71% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is one of the lowest scores for a movie directed by Wes Anderson. The film’s plot revolves around the transformative events that take place during the annual Junior Stargazer convention in a retro-futuristic reimagining of 1955.

The film had a star-studded cast including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum.

Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ Receives 71% Rating on Rotten Tomatoes, One of the Lowest for the Director

According to the critics, “Asteroid City doubles down on Wes Anderson’s signature narrative style, but it’s frequently at odds with the story’s pathos.“

A user wrote, “Asteroid City is a perfect pairing to his 2007 film The Darjeeling Limited as it explored grief in a fast and explosive way, while Asteroid City takes you through the process of trying to exist within it.“

Asteroid City is directed and co-produced by Wes Anderson from a screenplay by Anderson and a story by Anderson and Roman Coppola. According to the film’s plot, “World-changing events spectacularly disrupt the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention in an American desert town circa 1955.”

Asteroid City is set to be released in the United States through a limited theatrical release on June 16, 2023, followed by a wide release on June 23, 2023, distributed by Focus Features. Read review.
