DC Canceled Wonder Woman 3
Wonder Woman 3 is no longer moving forward as the DC movies hit a turning point. Patty Jenkins, who directed Wonder Woman 1 and 2, also left the project. According to THR, Wonder Woman 3 is considered dead in its current incarnation. The third sequel to Wonder Woman does not fit in with the new plans. Most recently, Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman appeared in the ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘ and also rumored to appear in ‘The Flash‘.
Wonder Woman starring Gal Gadot was released in 2017, and the film has grossed over $822 million worldwide against a production budget of $120–150 million. It has also received high praise from critics. The sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, was released in 2020 and grossed $169.6 million worldwide against a production budget of $200 million. The film is a flop as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and its limited theatrical run.
According to the insiders, DC’s Black Adam was a major release this fall that was supposed to earn around $600 million at the box office, but unfortunately, the film only earned $387 million in seven weeks. This box-office fall has made the studio change its upcoming projects. The sequel to Black Adam is canceled, Man of Steel 2 will be no more, but Henry Cavill will return as Super-Man, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will see the final appearance of Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
The Co-Chairmen and CEOs, James Gunn and Peter Safran haven’t officially announced anything concerning the casting or contractual obligations of any current Justice League characters. The new plans for DC will be announced next week. In December, Gunn posted a tweet stating that he is currently making plans for the future project of DC. In an interview, Gunn said, “The opportunity to make DC as great as it can be and as it should be — that is the reason why I’m doing this job because I know that Peter and I can do that.” He added, “We spent the past couple days with a group of some of the best thinkers in the industry, the best writers in the industry, starting to map out that eight- to 10-year plan of what it’s going to look like in theater, in TV, in animation, across the board, for these characters.”
DC Universe’s upcoming releases include Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to hit theaters on May 17, 2023. Following The Flash on 23 June 2023, Blue Beetle on 18 August 2023, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on 25 December 2023.
