Exclusive: Sydney Sweeney and Johnny Depp to Star in ‘Day Drinker’, a Supernatural Thriller by Director Marc Webb

Sydney Sweeney (“Anyone but You” and “Immaculate”) and Johnny Depp (“The Professor” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”) will star in the new supernatural thriller ‘Day Drinker,’ directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man” and “500 Days of Summer”).

As first reported by Jeff Sneider’s TheInSneider newsletter, the script is penned by Zach Dean (“The Tomorrow War” and “Fast X”).

Recently, on X, Sweeney herself has come out to debunk Jeff Sneider’s reports of her starring in a movie alongside Depp. She wrote, “I woke up to rumors anyway. Go see ‘Immaculate’ in theaters this weekend!”

What is the ‘Day Drinker’ About?

‘Day Drinker’ is said to be about the bond between an enigmatic stranger (Depp) and a bartender mourning (Sweeney) the loss of her lover. It will explore themes of love, friendship, and revenge, set in beautiful coastal France, Portugal, and Spain.

As of now, we have only received information regarding the two cast members, a hint about the plot, the director, and the writer. Details regarding the producers, production companies, and the rest of the cast members will be announced soon.

Sweeney has become one of the trending actresses in Hollywood. She recently starred in Sony’s R-rated rom-com ‘Anyone But You,’ which grossed $216 million worldwide. Following that, she was part of ‘Madame Web,’ which flopped at the box office. Sweeney then starred in ‘Immaculate,’ a psychological horror film. Depp is returning to acting after winning his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2021. He recently portrayed King Louis XV in the 2023 historical drama ‘Jeanne du Barry‘ and directed the film ‘Modì,’ about Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, currently in post-production.
