The first trailer for ‘Joker: Folie à Deux‘ has already hinted at how Lady Gaga‘s version of Harley Quinn will be in the film. Gaga herself says that her portrayal of Harley Quinn in ‘Folie à Deux’ is “really vulnerable” and “very authentic to this movie.”
During an interview with Access Hollywood to promote the Gaga Chromatica Ball film, Gaga revealed that her version of Harley Quinn is very different from the comic book, as she did not draw inspiration from any iteration of Margot Robbie’s portrayal or the animated shows’ Harley Quinn.
Gaga said, “You know my version of Harley is mine and it’s very authentic to this movie and these characters.”
“I’ve never done anything like I’ve done in this movie before, so it’s all going to be completely brand new and really fun,” she added.
Directed by Todd Phillips and stars Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck, Gaga as Harley Quinn, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. The filming began in December 2022 and finished in April 2023. While filming was underway, leaked images of Gaga in New York City surfaced online. Gaga is playing the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel (Harley Quinn), a psychiatrist who falls in love with Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) and is also his greatest supporter.
According to reports, the film will include at least 15 covers of “very well-known” songs. Described as “mostly a jukebox musical.”
The film is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, Bron Creative, and Joint Effort.
‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ is set to premiere at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in September 2024 before its theatrical release by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 4, 2024.
