Following his last appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum will reprise his role as Gambit in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
In the December Discord Q&A with Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), it was revealed that “Charles Xavier and Beast are confirmed for the upcoming Avengers films, along with Tatum’s Gambit.”
During an interview with Screen Rant, Tatum shared his thoughts on returning as Gambit, stating he believes it could happen soon. He confirmed that he’s ‘talking to Kevin [Feige]’ in hopes of making it a reality.
Tatum explained, ‘I’m not going to bore everybody with what we were trying to do with our [Gambit] film, but it was an origin story. We were trying to create something that would fit within the world and interact with Deadpool. You could put Deadpool in a lot of scenes with other MCU characters, and he’d possibly just make fun of them the entire time. But he wouldn’t, because Ryan loves comics and Marvel.’
He added, ‘I would do pretty much any version of Gambit, to be honest. I think we will, hopefully. At least I’m talking to Kevin, and I just want to be part of the MCU. Just getting to dress up as Gambit again would be enough for me. Deadpool & Wolverine felt like a true make-a-wish moment, something my friend did for me. It was like, “Come in, and I’ll let you dress up as your favorite superhero character.” I had an out-of-body experience standing next to Hugh. I thought, “Oh, my God, there’s Wolverine. There’s Blade! Elektra—everyone’s here. This is wild.”
In Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. will play the role of Doctor Doom, Chris Evans as an Nomad, Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Wonder Man.
Filming for Avengers: Doomsday is set to begin in March 2025, with the Russo Brothers directing and Stephen McFeely writing the script. Unusually for Marvel, the Russo Brothers will also produce both films through their AGBO banner.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to be released on May 1, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027.
