It’s official! Conan O’Brien has joined the cast of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, alongside Tom Hanks and Tim Allen.
In an Instagram post, O’Brien revealed that he has been cast as a new character named Smartypants.
O’Brien said, “It’s the best character of them all. I far prefer this character. I don’t even want to play Woody or Buzz — not even if they beg me. I’m Smartypants.”

The film, written and directed by Andrew Stanton, is a sequel to Toy Story 4 (2019) and the fifth installment in Pixar’s Toy Story film series.
Here’s the plot details for Toy Story 5:
In the film, Hanks and Allen are set to reprise their respective roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Newcomers to the voice cast, as previously announced, include Ernie Hudson, who takes over the late Carl Weathers’s role as action figure Combat Carl, and Anna Faris in an undisclosed role. Joan Cusack is also expected to return, reprising her role as Jessie.
The toys are back in Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 — and this time around, it’s Toy meets Tech. Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and the rest of the gang’s jobs get exponentially harder when they go head-to-head with an all-new threat to playtime.
Veteran late-night host O’Brien earned critical acclaim for hosting this year’s Oscars and has already been confirmed to return for next year’s ceremony. He currently stars in Conan O’Brien Must Go, a travel show he created for HBO Max, which is heading into its third season.
Next up, O’Brien will appear in a supporting role in Mary Bronstein’s comedy If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, which received critical praise following its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
O’Brien is represented by WME, Pariah, Brecheen Feldman Breimer, and Glaser Weil Fink Jacobs.
The film is produced by Jessica Choi, with Pete Docter serving as executive producer.
Toy Story 5 will hit theaters in the United States on June 19, 2026, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
