Robert Eggers has found his werewolf for his next movie Werwulf.
According to Nexus Point News, Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been cast as the werewolf in Eggers’ Werwulf, alongside Lily-Rose Depp. Both previously starred in Eggers’ last film, Nosferatu.
The film will be directed by Eggers from a screenplay he co-wrote with Sjón (the duo previously collaborated on 2022’s The Northman script). In the film, Taylor-Johnson is set to play the titular werewolf, with Depp portraying his wife. It is described as a werewolf movie set in 13th-century England with time‑period‑accurate dialogue, and Eggers says it’s the darkest film he has ever written “by far.”

Filming is scheduled to begin in September 2025 in the United Kingdom. Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producing alongside Eggers and Sjón, while Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus are serving as executive producers.
Focus Features recently financed and released Eggers’ Nosferatu. They’ve partnered with him on all his films, including The Northman, The Witch, and The Lighthouse, with Focus handling international distribution.
Taylor-Johnson recently appeared in 28 Years Later and is known for Kraven the Hunter, The Fall Guy, Bullet Train, Tenet, Nocturnal Animals, and Godzilla.
Depp’s credits include Wolf, Silent Night, Voyagers, The Dancer, The King, and HBO’s The Idol.
When is Werwulf releasing in North America?
Werwulf will hit theaters in North America on December 25, 2026, by Focus Features.
