A new leak from the upcoming Universal and DreamWorks Animation film Shrek 5 reveals the return of Lord Farquaad, the main villain from the 2001 Shrek movie.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH: “In Shrek 5, when the group enters the real world and gets stuck there, they come across Farquaad (the villain from the first movie), who now runs a Shrek-themed amusement park like Universal Studios.“
The film follows Shrek’s daughter (Zendaya), who, while practicing magic, accidentally transports Shrek and Donkey to the real world. Now, they must find a way back, as she doesn’t know the spell to bring them home.

Directed by Walt Dohrn and Conrad Vernon, with Brad Ableson as co-director, Shrek 5 features a screenplay written by Michael McCullers. The film is a sequel to Shrek Forever After (2010), serving as the fifth main installment and the seventh overall in the Shrek film series. It is loosely based on William Steig’s 1990 picture book Shrek!.
The cast of Shrek 5 includes Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, Zendaya as Felicia, and Antonio Banderas as Puss in Boots.
In July 2025, speaking to ScreenRant, Murphy revealed that the cast of Shrek 5 was “still doing voiceover stuff” before he would get to jump into Donkey’s new story.
“We’re still in the booth, and literally, we’re still doing Shrek,” he said. “We start in September on Donkey, we’re doing a Donkey one, and that’ll be three years from now, but we’re about two years into Shrek 5. Still in the booth and about to start Donkey in September.”
The film is produced by returning producer Gina Shay (Trolls franchise), who also produced Shrek Forever After, and by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Shrek 5 was originally set to premiere on July 1, 2026, but DreamWorks and Universal Pictures pushed it back in January 2025 to December 23, 2026, for DreamWorks’ 25th anniversary. It was delayed again in August 2025, and the film is now scheduled to be released on June 30, 2027.
