The Boys star Antony Starr has transformed into a new look for the upcoming Jean-Michel Basquiat biopic Samo Lives.
Following the final day of production, Starr, who plays Andy Warhol, was seen filming on the set of Samo Lives in New York City alongside Kelvin Harrison Jr., who portrays the legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. The film follows Basquiat’s rise in the New York City art scene as he grapples with his past and future.

In the images, Starr is completely unrecognizable in his new look as Andy Warhol, wearing a gray wig, round glasses, a black blazer, a blue turtleneck, jeans, and white sneakers.

Directed by Julius Onah, the filmmaker behind Luce and Captain America: Brave New World, the film is based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Glanz. Onah also serves as a producer alongside John Baker, Rob Feng, and Eric Ro, as well as Macro Film Studios’ James Lopez and Charles D. King. Executive producers include Kelvin Harrison Jr., Charles Miller, and Ossetra Films’ Sterling Brim and DC Wade.

Samo Lives is described as “a bold—artistically driven—biographical film celebrating the remarkable origins and global legacy of the New York–born, Haitian-Puerto Rican American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat—whose seminal paintings and street art defined the Neo-Expressionism movement in the 1980s—and whose impact and relevance are still felt 33 years after his untimely death at age 27.”

The film stars Harrison Jr. as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Chase Sui Wonders, Lukas Gage, Starr, Kathryn Newton, Danny Ramirez, Jeffrey Wright, Dane DeHaan, Priah Ferguson, Thomas Kretschmann, Lucy Fry, Michael Angelo Covino, Charlene Amoia, Yolonda Ross, Iván Amaro Bullón, Lindsey Dresbach, Phillip Johnson Richardson, Jerry Lobrow as Tony Shafrazi.
In a statement received by Blavity’s Shadow and Act, Onah opened up about his major role in retelling this story. He said, “Jean-Michel Basquiat redefined the idea of who ascends to the highest altitudes of the fine art world. But the complexity and richness of his experience as an artist and a child of the African diaspora have yet to be dramatized in the manner they deserve.”
He added, “It’s an honor to work with Kelvin and my collaborators, and with Endeavor Content, to celebrate the legacy of an artist who has invited audiences everywhere to be inspired by the transformative power of art.”
Samo Lives is set to hit theaters in 2026.
