Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently held test screenings ahead of its July release, with audiences giving “excellent” feedback.
According to John Campea on The John Campea Show, Spider-Man: Brand New Day recently had test screenings, and the reactions were reportedly better than expected, described as “beyond excellent.”
John said, “The reactions have been better than they hoped, and ‘beyond excellent’ has been the response. That’s what they said.”
The director has officially confirmed the test screenings. CBR reported that at the Deadline Contenders event, Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that early screenings had already happened. This comes after Tom Holland mentioned that reshoots were used to add humor and develop a villain’s plot further.
Cretton said, “I can’t say what happens, but I’m very, very excited about the movie. I’m really excited about the small test screenings and how it’s connecting with audiences.”
He added, “Of course, it’s a big blockbuster—it’s super fun and has all the heart and humor you want from a Spider-Man movie. But at its core, it’s about relearning how to connect with people, and I’m really excited to put it out into the world right now.”
Speaking to ScreenRant, Destin Daniel Cretton opened up about Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day:
“Peter is going through a stage that I think many of us can relate to right now. He’s living in the middle of NYC, surrounded by millions of people, yet somehow, he feels completely disconnected and alone. This is the first time we see Peter trying to live his life outside of his community of friends and family, and his isolation has some unexpected consequences that will complicate everything in his life.”

After the record-breaking global success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks an entirely new chapter for Peter Parker and Spider-Man. Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves. Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The film stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon reprising their roles as MJ Watson and Ned Leeds. Sadie Sink joins the cast alongside Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle (a.k.a. The Punisher) and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk. Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman have also been cast in undisclosed roles, while Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan from Spider-Man: Homecoming and Marvin Jones III has been confirmed to play the role of Tombstone. Additionally, Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova will appear in the movie.
The film is produced by Amy Pascal, Rachel O’Connor, Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, and Mitch Bell.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters and IMAX on July 31, 2026.
