Inde Navarrette, who was cast as Rogue, also known as Anna Marie, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie, wants to put her own spin on the character while honoring her established identity in Marvel Comics.
In a recent interview with THR, Navarrette teased Rogue’s new look in the X-Men movie. She plans to respect Marvel’s writers and the creative direction of director Jake Schreier while bringing her own ideas and personality to the character.
According to Navarrette, she wants to make careful career choices over the next few years to establish the kind of roles she wants to pursue. She hopes to play grounded, fully developed characters who feel like real people. The actress wants to transform her appearance for certain roles rather than always looking like herself on screen.

Navarrette said, “I also recognize that with acting comes the freedom of being a completely different person, one of those people being Rogue.”
She added, “Paying respect to the incredible writers that are a part of Marvel, with Jake Schreier directing, taking what they want to do, adding my own sauce, and then going from there!”
Who is Rogue in Marvel Comics?
Rogue first appeared in Marvel Comics in The Avengers Annual #10 in 1981. She is a mutant who can absorb another person’s life force, memories, abilities, and superpowers through physical touch. Rogue also has superhuman strength, speed, durability, and the ability to fly.
Anna Paquin was the first actress to play Rogue in live-action X-Men films, appearing in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Speaking to the LA Times, Navarrette said she had studied Rogue’s character and wanted to do justice to her portrayal. She wants to honor the creative vision of Schreier and Marvel’s plans for the character.
Navarrette said, “I’m doing everything humanly possible because I love that character. I’ve studied that character. I want to do it justice for myself, for Jake, for what they want to portray and also for what I as a fan want her to be like. I’m doing everything, exclamation point.”
The X-Men reboot stars Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel/Warren Worthington III, and Adam Driver as Nathaniel Milbury/Mr. Sinister. There are rumors that Beast and Iceman will also appear, as the cast is reportedly being finalized and is expected to be announced soon.
As reported by Murphy’s Multiverse, the X-Men movie will focus on “the school, prejudice, and the interpersonal friction between a younger generation of mutants finding their identity in a world that fears them,” rather than jumping straight into world-ending threats.
Directed by Jake Schreier from a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo.
Speaking to Good Morning America, Schreier says the X-Men movie will feature many elements that have never been explored on the big screen.
He has also been looking at different X-Men comic book storylines for inspiration, specifically mentioning Chris Claremont’s iconic run and Jonathan Hickman’s newer stories.
He said, “Digging back into those comics like the Chris Claremont run and the newer Jonathan Hickman stuff. There are so many stories that are still untold.”
The X-Men movie will hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
