The VOD release date for A Minecraft Movie has been revealed. The film will be available to buy or rent on digital HD platforms — including Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, and Google Play Movies & TV — starting May 20, 2025.
Directed by Jared Hess—from a screenplay by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer—based on the 2011 video game of the same name by Mojang Studios.
Here’s the plot details for A Minecraft Movie:
Four misfits are suddenly pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a bizarre, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination. To get back home, they embark on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve. Together, their adventure will challenge all five to be bold and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative.

The film stars Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison, the owner of a video game store; Jack Black as Steve, an expert crafter; Emma Myers as Natalie, Henry’s older sister and legal guardian; Danielle Brooks as Dawn, a real estate agent with plans to open a petting zoo; Sebastian Hansen as Henry, Natalie’s younger brother; Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene, the vice principal at Henry’s school; Rachel House as the voice of Malgosha, the piglin ruler of the Nether; Jemaine Clement as Daryl and the voice of Bruce; and Matt Berry as the voice of Nitwit, a jobless villager.
Produced by Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Olafsson, and Vu Bui, while Todd Hallowell, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, Jonathan Spaihts, Pete Chiappetta, Andrew Lary, and Anthony Tittanegro served as executive producers.
